Tommy Jeans remixes hip-hop’s finest ’90s moments

Fashion news of the week: Plus, Burberry’s four-legged friends, Levi’s and Emma Chamberlain’s gift of giving, Miu Miu’s Christmas for one, Flannels’ big fat festive house party and The Fashion Awards’ final nominees.

Ever since the 1990s, Tommy Hilfiger has had a long-standing relationship with hip-hop. Legends such as Snoop Dogg, Aaliyah and P. Diddy were often seen flying the flag for the American brand, wearing red, white and blue rugby tops, baggy jeans and crop tops in music videos and red carpets.

So, for hip-hop’s 50th anniversary this year, Tommy Jeans is looking back at its finest music moments while toasting to today’s faces of hip-hop and rap, with a campaign featuring GloRilla and Central Cee, both showing off the brand’s new 17-piece Tommy Jeans Remastered collection. An iconic anniversary calls for an iconic capsule,” says founder Tommy Hilfiger. With this collection we celebrate moments in style that defined the 90s hip-hop look and rework them for today.”

For the shoot, Cench dug out the 85” football jersey he wore for his recent On the Radar freestyle, pairing it with Tommy’s graphic windbreaker and a slick black puffer. Meanwhile, Memphis-born rapper GloRilla does smart-casual proper in a cropped rugby top, black jeans, a sharp leather jacket and cycling shorts.

Also included in the capsule: a revival of the striped rugby top worn by Snoop during his 1994 Saturday Night Live appearance, a rugged puffer similar to one worn by Raekwon and Aaliyah, and utility influences in an Air Force-style bomber jacket and baggy cargo pants.

Here’s to 50 more years.

A Bur-berry good Christmas

Here’s one way to get us soppy: recruit a host of furry four-legged friends, prop them up in a Christmas campaign and let the office oohs and awws commence. Daniel Lee had the right idea for his first holiday campaign as creative director at Burberry, bringing a trio of chicks, a duck and a puppy to help flog the house’s latest accessories: tartan scarves in brightly coloured hues, smooth side bags, shearling-lined mules and a plush cushion taken from his debut collection, presented in February, that looked to cosy domesticity and a welcome return to classic British emblems. Too early for a mince pie? Not anymore.

Levi’s and Emma Chamberlain’s gift of giving

The denim brand’s It’s Giving Season is all about the gift of goodwill, where we do our bit to make others feel swell about themselves. And so Levi’s recruited the internet personality and contributing creative director to get all dressed up in the brand’s latest collection – which includes sparkly skirts, Western-style denim shirts, the Ribcage Bells jeans – to convince us to open our hearts. If you need a little help along the way, Emma and Levi’s have handily come up with a carefully curated gift guide chock full of potential presents for a friend, lover, neighbour or all three. Now that really is giving.

You’re all invited to Flannels’ Xmas house party

There’s no better place for a knees-up than a house party, and so for its big festive takeover, Flannels looked no further than the humble abode to get us all in the Christmas spirit. Kicking off last Thursday, We Are The Party sees the flagship Oxford Street store launch the brand-new Flannels Home, a homeware section stocking all sorts of knick-knacks from the likes of Versace, Off-White and Assouline. Then, for last-minute party gear on a budget, there’s Flannels Rental, stocking archive and new-season pieces by Coperni, 16Arlington and Miscreants. For a light (or not so light) refresher, the top floor is now home to a champagne bar serving Dom Perignon, Ruinart and Veuve Clicquot, as well as crisps and caviar. Then, to straighten yourself out after one too many, the Beauty Bathroom features a GHD styling station, top-notch tips from Charlotte Tilbury artists, who will be taking over the space for the festive season, and the unveiling of Flannels’ first beauty Christmas cracker. Whew.

Miu Miu makes a case for a solo Crimbo

With all the chaos of Christmas Day – waking up hungover, drying out the turkey, politics, anger, riot – perhaps it’s high time we take a cue from Miu Miu and writhe around on the floor, opening precious boxes before calling it a night… alone. At least that’s what they’re proposing in this year’s Christmas campaign, which stars Emma Corrin, looking pretty spectacular in a host of Miu Miu’s AW23 finery, reclining glamorously on a rather plush-looking carpet before attempting a solo game of cards. Suddenly, Christmas for one doesn’t sound so bad.

The Fashion Awards completes its list of nominees

The British Fashion Council has announced the nominees for this year’s Fashion Awards, the well-heeled ceremony that toasts the very best in British design. Taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 4th December, the Awards act as the main fundraiser for the BFC Foundation. It’s all in aid of the BFC’s support system for emerging designers throughout the year, such as the Newgen initiative, a platform allowing emerging designers to show on-schedule at London Fashion Week, and scholarships awarded to university students. Plus, it’s a pretty good excuse to get suited, booted and raise a glass (or two).

While nominees for categories including British Menswear Designer and Model of the Year were announced earlier this year, the final two categories have completed the list. In this year’s nominations for the BFC Foundation Award, which recognises the most exciting of newer designers in the city, are Aaron Esh, who made his stellar LFW debut with one of our favourite shows of the season, Chet Lo, Conner Ives, Paolo Carzana and Sinéad O’Dwyer.

Who’s up for the biggest gong of the evening, Designer of the Year? We have Daniel Lee for Burberry, who presented his first collection for the house in February; Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Loewe; Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta; Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons for Prada; and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who took her final bow as creative director in early October at Paris Fashion Week.

Best of luck!

AllSaints gives The Royal Ballet an indie sleaze makeover

Two of the past year’s biggest microtrends collide in AllSaint’s latest collaboration. Balletcore meets indie sleaze as young Royal Ballet dancers model the brand’s latest collection, clad in rugged biker jackets, beaded mini dresses and leather trousers, getting some studio time in at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Featuring Bomin Kim, Viola Pantuso, Brayden Gallucci and Joonhyuk Jun, each dancer selected their six favourite pieces from AllSaints’ winter collection for the shoot. And, as a bonus, the partnership also comes with a limited-edition T‑shirt and hoodie designed by The Royal Ballet, with 10 per cent of the proceeds from the entire collection going to The Royal Opera House Covent Garden Foundation, which supports The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera at a time when the arts need it the most.

Perfect your pirouettes in the new limited edition T‑shirt and hoodie, available in store at AllSaints and the Royal Opera House Shop, and online at allsaints.com and shop.roh.org.uk
